Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the clinic just for Presbyterians?
- No, it serves all, regardless of faith, ethnic group, or ability to pay.
- Who pays for the expenses of the clinic?
- Most of our financial support comes from those churches and individuals who contribute
to Mission to the World for our staff members. People may also contribute directly to the
clinic through Mission to the World. We also receive funds from visitors to pay for
their expenses and ministry work. Our patients pay for a small part of the clinic
expenses- see below.
- How much do patients pay to be seen at the clinic?
- The standard fee for a visit is $10 Belizean dollars, which is $5 U.S.
This includes a doctor visit and medications. If a
patient is unable to pay, patients still receive care. This money goes into the general
clinic fund, which covers salary for the Belizean staff, medicines, and building
maintenance. Currently, this fee covers about 50% of the everyday
operating expenses of the clinic, not including missionary salaries.
- What language is spoken in the clinic?
- English is the official language of Belize. However, many in northern Belize speak only
Spanish. Our Belizean staff helps by translating for us who aren't as skilled in Spanish.
- How can I get involved in the missions work of the Presbyterian Church in
America?
- Besides supporting missionaries such as us by prayer and finances, you should contact
Mission to the World about its many opportunities for short and long term missions. Visit
the MTW web page at www.mtw.org.
