The Opening of Cornerstone Presbyterian High School

Sunday, August 31, 2003

Lord,

What You gave us the vision to conceive

And the power to believe

We completely trusted You to help us achieve

This little verse… stirred a desire in my heart, a seeking for what God would use for the most long lasting effect in the lives of our youth, and the furtherance of His Kingdom in our midst in Belize… a Christian High School. Today that became a reality.

We had some hard rain for several days, and the prospect for a good sunny day for the opening ceremonies of Cornerstone Presbyterian High School on Sunday, August 31 was pretty slim. But, the Lord gave us a bright hot sun for most of the morning, and then some showers to cool off before leaving for home. A good crowd was present, with several Ministry of Education officials, to be part of this historic event for the Presbytery. Rev. Moises Chan, pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian in Belize City, the main speaker, spoke on the theme, taken from 1 Peter 2:6… reminding us of the Lord’s work in building His Church… from generation to generation… His faithfulness in providing for this school so that our youth would be grounded on that Rock, Christ Jesus, the Lord. This bold step of faith, through the desires of the Presbytery, the help of Mission to the World, with many work teams, the local contractors, stand today as a testimony to the Lord… a challenge for the students and teachers, and a cause of praise to our God.

It was an impressive sight to see the 60 students in their School uniforms stand before us pledging their confidence in this new institution, a step of faith for both parents and students. And indeed a step of faith for principal Albert Zantingh and staff, some of whom are volunteers from among our churches… willing to serve in God’s kingdom building here. When you pray for Belize, please remember Cornerstone Presbyterian High School, the high school board, the Principal, teachers, staff and volunteers.

CORNERSTONE PRESBYTERIAN HIGH SCHOOL… BUILDING ON THE ROCK, JESUS CHRIST

Yours in Christ’s service,

Helen Lacey
