Thoughts on Special Times

Each year as May comes and brings Mother’s Day once more, our thoughts are likely to turn back to special days and hours and events.  Some were times filled with laughter.  Some were sad.  Many were exciting.  Others were sobering.  All are worthy of being remembered.

Let’s call these times moments to hold dear to the heart.

Compare your list with this one:

***learning how to skip rope, and whistle, and make doll dresses

***being baptized into the Christian faith and realizing that you are a child of the Most High God

***receiving that diploma on Graduation Day

***dancing with your darling and wearing his diamond ring

***saying your wedding vows

***cooking your first meal, at your own pace

***getting long-expected orders; having orders changed

***holding your firstborn close and feeling his little heart beat against your breast

***saying goodbye to your husband when he is sent far away; welcoming him home again

***feeling a surge of pride well up inside you as you salute the flag of our country

***teaching a child to say her prayers

***planting a rose beside your mother’s grave

***gazing at the stars on a clear winter night and realizing that you are less than a speck in this vast, magnificent universe

***creating something with your bare hands and your heart and your soul, and then seeing others enjoy it

***helping to wipe away the tears of a friend

***hearing a dove sing at twilight, and sensing that Browning’s lines are true:

“God’s in His Heaven -- All’s right with the world.”
