The Food Pantry is in need of canned fruits and vegetables (especially green). While you are doing shopping at the grocery store, please pick up extras for our Food Pantry. We are also starting to collect the Bruno's Ham coupons. If you shop at Bruno's and do not plan on using your coupons, please donate them to the church.
THE FAMILY PROMISE NETWORK
The Family Promise Network (website http://www.familypromise.org/) of Coastal Alabama (http://www.IHNCoastalAL.org), Teressa Ramsey, , Director, office telephone (251) 441-1991, provides a way to enable religious groups to unite hearts to provide shelter, meals and compassionate assistance for homeless families. Congregations have found that the Network provides an effective way to be involved in a hands-on outreach program that serves the poor and fosters congregational unity and interfaith cooperation.
A few of the other area churches which are part of the (Gulf Coast) Network are Government Street Presbyterian, All Saints Episcopal, First Baptist, and Spanish Fort Presbyterian.
In the program, Central furnishes clean, safe, overnight lodging and nutritious meals for up to fourteen guests for one week per quarter. Central also houses the Family Promise Day Center.
Volunteers are the most important aspect
of a functional Family Promise Network. The experience
of successful Family Promise programs elsewhere suggests that we need
around 50 volunteers to make this thing go. Please consider
volunteering your time when we're hosting the families at
Central.
Volunteer opportunities include:

We help support the churches El Buen Pastor, Kopoma, Mexico, El Divino Redentor, Maxcanu, Mexico, and are in Presbytery partnership with the Mayab Presbytery of Merida, Mexico, sending both financial support and volunteer aid each year. We go twice yearly to Merida, Mexico, and the surrounding area, for Missions projects. Click HERE to see pictures from the trip in January 2007.
The "Golden Oldies" for women and Central Seniors are some of the many groups meeting at our church, usually on a monthly basis. A Church-wide Fellowship Luncheon is held monthly after 11 AM worship, usually on the third Sunday of the month.
Sunday School, Classes Meeting as Follows:
The Sunday School Program for children
Pre-School to Senior High has taken on a new format this school
year. Classes are broken into three age levels:
Pre-School-First Grade, Second thru Fifth Grades, and Middle
School-High School. All the classes meet on the Second Floor,
on the Parking Lot side of the building.
The classes will have six-week sessions surrounding one
topic/theme. The kids will divide into their groups and study
the same theme, but in many different ways. Currently we are in
the 4th week of studying the calling of the disciples. The kids
have looked at what a disciple is, how Jesus called his
disciples, who Jesus called, and what does that mean to them
today. They are learning scripture verses and applying them to
their situations at home and school.
All of this is learned through various means. The kids have
made a movie, cooked, created their own disciple banner with
symbols like we have in our sanctuary, and created crafts. This
hands-on approach not only is aimed to teach the children the
truths of our faith, but also to make Sunday School FUN! Be on
the lookout for what the kids are doing!
If you know a neighbor child, grandchild, or a Central child
that is not currently in Sunday School, please encourage them
to come join us! It is newcomer friendly! And good
old-fashioned fun!
All ages of children are invited to the 9 AM and 11 AM worship. An extended Sunday School time is provided during the Worship Service for children ages Birth-Kindergarten. This meets on the First floor nursery and 2/3 year old rooms. Paid childcare providers lovingly staff this time with the younger children.
